Breakthrough has an extremely simply ruleset. Pieces move like Chess pawns and attempt to reach the opposite side of the board. The first to do so wins.

I rated a +2 because when played on a 7x7 game board.. it's an enjoyable perfect-information game.

A very simple game that builds up to epic mindscrew. When you lose, it always feels like your own fault, which is probably the best thing anyone can say about any game.

Cannot say if I like Bombardment better or not.

A simple chess/checker sort of game which I'm not very good at but enjoy.

Enjoyable, but more so on slightly smaller boards.

Good game. Suffers from an imbalance of having very little tension at the beginning and a little too much at the end!

I like this once it gets going, but it does take a bit of (boring) work to get to the good stuff. The pieces should start closer together.

I've played it plenty of times over the board and by e-mail, and I'm still not totally sure what I think about it. There's a bit of a chicken aspect to not being the first to capture, but at the same time, if you have sufficient backing, it's the fastest way to make a hole. Oddly enough, feels a bit like American football.

The Bombardment variant makes it more fun, in my opinion.

A gradual build of tension, culminating in the inevitable mess of exchanges.
