Epaminondas is an elegant 2-player game of soldiers. The object is to start your turn with more soldiers on your opponent's home row than he has on yours. The primary movement mechanic is similar to the one seen in Cannon, namely by moving rows of pieces called phalanxes. This is a tremendously simple yet deep abstract that is sure to satisfy.

A real meat grinder. Not as tight as Cannon, but about the same in spirit.

Interesting "older" game; still getting a handle on strategy, but enjoying it.

Lots to learn here. Not being able to win *immediately* upon reaching the back row requires more planning.

A classic with lots of depth to explore. For some reason, doesn't engage me as much as it ought to... still, it's a very clever game.

This is one of those rare games where analyzing the board as is seems clear as day but looking ahead even a few moves seems futile.

The epitome of the elegant abstract. I only rate it a 0 because it doesn't quite engage me the way Cannon does, for example.

Deep and engaging game on a huge scale, and I have very little idea what I'm doing when I play.

Savoring my first games of this unpronounceable abstract with the pretty play. However, I'd rather play Cannon . . .
