Detailed Game Information
An AI opponent is available for this game!
Tanbo is a game of roots. Played on a standard Go board, players attempt to constrict and kill opposing roots by expanding their own. Only one player's roots will survive. It should be noted that like BTT and Sprawl, an early resignation in the 4-player game will cause the game to be abandoned and left unrated. Please be courteous when joining such games, especially since Tanbo is a relatively lengthy game.

Good territorial game for two or four players. Although others disagree with me on this point, I think the original game is much more interesting than the hexagonal variant, Hexbo. Some have noted slow play early in the game, but as with Go, this is the strategic part of the game, and players are not likely to figure out the opening strategies until after several games. The full 19x19 board is a much better game than the more tactical and shorter 9x9 game.

I like the idea here and it is fun as well

An arguably sounder game than Go to play on a Go board.

Attractive and engaging game that I am slowly beginning to grasp.

Interesting territorial game... a bit slow in the early part, and hard to know what one is doing. Looks promising, but with games being so slow, don't know if I'll ever manage to play it enough to fully appreciate it.

I think this one could be a good game in person, but it is waaayyyy too slow for SDG. Games can take up to a year to play! Surprisingly, there also appears to be a strong first-player advantage. I'm guessing that might just be because Mark was the first player in many of the games...more of a strong Mark Steere advantage. ;o)

Decided I don't really like this game. Takes too long asynchronously. But might be better in real life.

Long is fine, I like long. But so much of this game is filling in free moves and dames. I really like the concept, but playing feels like a chore.

The epitome of Mark Steere's designs. There's some insignificantly small move way in the beginning of the game that decided the match, but you won't find out for a long time. Far too slow and tedious to be fun. I'd rather play Amazons.
